Pawsitively Purrfect: Thinking About Adopting a Cat This June?

By Rachel S.

If you’ve been toying with the idea of adding a feline friend to your family, June might just be the purr-fect time. It’s National Adopt a Cat Month, and shelters across the country are full of whiskers and waiting—thanks to “kitten season” and year-round rescues.

Whether you’re a first-time cat parent or a longtime cat lover, adopting in June gives you the chance to make a real difference. Shelters are often at capacity this time of year, and every adoption helps save a life and makes room for another animal in need.

So, why adopt now? Beyond the warm fuzzies (literally and emotionally), many shelters offer special adoption rates and promotions during June. Plus, you’ll find plenty of options—from playful kittens to older, chill cats who just want a sunny spot to nap in.

Of course, bringing a cat home is a long-term commitment. Most cats live 15–20 years, so it’s important to think about your lifestyle, your space, and your readiness to care for a pet. If your mornings are calm and your nights are cozy, a senior cat might fit right in. If you’re ready for zoomies at 3 a.m., a kitten could be your new chaos buddy.

Before adopting, be sure to stock up on the basics: food, litter, toys, a scratching post, and a quiet space to help them adjust. And while you’re at it sign up to be a member of the Military Cat Club if you aren’t already a member. Benefits of being a member include monthly sweepstakes you can enter into, coupons, freebies, birthday goodies and more!

Already have a cat (or two)? You can still support Adopt a Cat Month by donating supplies, volunteering at a local shelter, or simply spreading the word on social media. At the Military Cat Club, we’re all about helping you celebrate and care for your feline companions. From helpful tips to fun sweepstakes, we’re here for every step of your cat-loving journey. This June, open your heart, open your home, and maybe—open that adoption application. You never know, your new best friend could be waiting.
